driving north towards the bay ofNaples you will cross the panoramic village of Conca dei Marini, with the monastery of Santa Rosa, where they invented the Neapolitan pastry, Sfogliatella, and little town of Furore, known as the painted village, because it celebrates the art along its streets and on the walls of its houses with murals by international artists. Once you will reach Agerola, you will start to descend towards Pompeii, the ancient Roman city destroyed by a terrible eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79AD. From here an amazing view on the plain of the river Sarno, one of the most fertile in Italy, dominated by mt.Vesuvius, still an active volcano, last eruption was in March 1944.
The tour of Positano and Pompeii from Amalfi and Positano continues with Pompeii. In Pompeii you will have enough time for a visit. you will see the remains of the city and its highlights: the Forum with all the public buildings,the Curia, the Basilica, Apollo's Temple, the Eumachia Building, the Macellum; the original roads with shops and houses, the Theater, the Lupanare, preserved stuccoes and mosaics and you will not miss the plaster casts of the victims, caught in their last moments.
The tour of Positano and Pompeii from Amalfi and Positano continues to Positano. Driving through Castellammare di Stabia, famous for its shipyard the oldest in the Mediterrenean, where in 1831 during the kingdom of the two Sicilies, they built the first cruise ship of the world, the Francesco I, you will take a beautiful coastal road to reach to Sorrento Peninsula and Positano. on the way you will be facing the gulf of salerno with the little islands of Li Galli or Syrenuse Islands, where according to the legend the Syrens used to live. through a twisty bendy road you will reach Positano, the driver will leave you right at the beginning of the center that will enchant you with the narrow streets, cafès, art galleries and boutiques.
After the visit the driver will take you back to Amalfi along the beautiful Amalfi drive. On the way you will pass the fishermen village of Praiano, with its church dedicated to San Gennaro, bishop of Benevento who was martyred in the fourth century under the reign of Diocletian. The building, with a beautiful polychrome majolica dome, was built in the sixteenth century on the ruins of an earlier church of the same name. Praiano is famous also for a picturesque Christmas crib built in a cave that you will see.
Along the drive passing watch towers, natural beauties and villas, before approaching Amalfi, you will pass the fijord of Furore, a tiny fishing village that was inhabited, among others, by Roberto Rossellini and Anna Magnani, who was romantically linked to him.
