You will meet your driver at the Port of Naples and making your way to the archeological site of Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum from Naples port. Leaving the Port you will have in front of you one of the most important square in Naples, dominated by the Maschio Angioino, a massive Castle built in 1279. Here during the works for the subway the Roman port, with ships, amphoras and thermal baths came to light.
Driving south you will reach the highway driving towards Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum from Naples port. You will be close to Mount Vesuvius, an active volcano, last eruption was in March 1944, on the opposite site you will enjoy the view on the entire bay of Naples, with its islands: Capri, Ischia and Procida and the Sorrento Peninsula. our first stop will be Pompeii, the ancient Roman city destroyed by a terrible eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79AD.
Here you will see the remains of the city and its highlights: the Forum with all the public buildings,the Curia, the Basilica, Apollo's Temple, the Eumachia Building, the Macellum; the original roads with shops and houses, the Theater, the Lupanare, preserved stuccoes and mosaics and you will not miss the plaster casts of the victims, caught in their last moments.
After the visit, your driver will take you to Mt Vesuvius. mt 1281, about 40 minutes driving from Pompeii, back on the highway until Torre del Greco, famous for the cameos and coral jewelry. This is a very important stop of the visit of Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum from Naples port. From here you will take the road up to the mountain. This mountain road is very panoramic and during the drive you will see many sculptures, made of lava rocks by local and international artists. the mountain is an active volcano, classed as a complex stratovolcano, because its eruptions typically involve explosive eruptions as well as pyroclastic flows. Mount Vesuvius is considered to be one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world due to the large population of the province of Naples, driving up you will pass the observatory, first volcanological observatory in the world, built during the reign of Ferdinand II of Borbon in 1841, and the last petrified lava flow of the 1944 eruption. By car you will stop at 1000mt. from here you can walk up to the top of the mountain, the hike is graded 'easy to moderate' by trekking guides, and permit you to look inside the crater, where sometimes is possible to see rising fumes, after the visit of the volcano and a stop for lunch, the driver will take you to the last stop of the tour of Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum from Naples port: Herculaneum.
Herculaneum was discovered by chance in 1709, is one of the best preserved ancient cities in the world, destroyed by the same eruption that buried Pompeii. The city was covered by a mudslide, mixed with pyroclastic material. The excavations are surrounded by the modern city here we can visit the houses where the rich aristocratic Roman families spent their holidays and admire the carbonized wood furniture of 2000 years ago. you will see the ancient beach, where they found the bones of 300 people, the streets, shops, elegant thermal baths, the palextra, beautiful mosaics like the one of Neptune and Amphitrite and frescoes, like the one in the Sacellum. At the end of the tour you will be returned to the Port of Naples.
