You will meet your driver at Sorrento accommodation and drive on the way to tour of Pompeii. You will pass the main square Piazza Tasso, named after a very famous Italian poet born here and you will follow the main street Corso Italia until the end of the Sorrento coast. From here you will take a beautiful coastal, passing the city of Castellammare di Stabia, famous for its shipyard the oldest in the Mediterrenean, where in 1831 during the kingdom of the two Sicilies, they built the first cruise ship of the world, the Francesco I, to reach Pompeii.
The ancient Roman city destroyed by a terrible eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79AD. The volcano is still an active, last eruption was in March 1944.
In Tour of Pompeii you will see the remains of the city and its highlights: the Forum with all the public buildings,the Curia, the Basilica, Apollo's Temple, the Eumachia Building, the Macellum; the original roads with shops and houses, the Theater, the Lupanare, preserved stuccoes and mosaics and you will not miss the plaster casts of the victims, caught in their last moments.
After the visit you will taken to a vinery situated at the foot of the Mt, Vesuvius, here you can visit the wine cellars and taste the local wine/food, then on to Mt Vesuvius mt 1281, the mountain road is very panoramic and during the drive you will see many sculptures, made of lava rocks by local and international artists. The mountain is an active volcano, classed as a complex stratovolcano, because its eruptions typically involve explosive eruptions as well as pyroclastic flows.
Mount Vesuvius is considered to be one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world due to the large population of the province of Naples.
driving up you will pass the observatory, first volcanological observatory in the world, built during the reign of Ferdinand II of Borbon in 1841, and the last petrified lava flow of the 1944 eruption.
by car you will stop at 1000mt. from here you can walk up to the top of the mountain, the hike is graded 'easy to moderate' by trekking guides, and permit you to look inside the crater, where sometimes is possible to see rising fumes. At the end of the tour you will be returned to Sorrento.
